Best floristry class in Hanoi: what we teach hands-on

By the Cáo Experiences team · 2026-11-01

At Cáo Experiences, we teach flower arranging in intimate workshops held in a working studio space in central Hanoi, led by our hosts in English. Most sessions run two to three hours and include learning flower conditioning, design principles, seasonal blooms available in local markets, and how to build three to five arrangements you take home. We work with flowers sourced fresh from suppliers each morning. Sessions are designed for beginners—no experience needed—and we adapt for seniors, children as part of family sessions, and groups. We'll adjust content based on your interests: structural design, color theory, low-arrangement techniques, or seasonal celebration styles. Ask us for dates and a quote on WhatsApp; we coordinate everything through the app.

What actually happens during a session?

We start with a welcome and a walk through the flowers we've sourced that morning—you'll see what's fresh, seasonal, and what grows in Vietnam. We show you how to strip stems, condition blooms in water, and assess vase depth and opening. Then we move through one or two demo arrangements together, explaining how we think about height, balance, and focal points. You'll then build your own designs, and we move between you offering tips on stem angle, filler placement, and color flow. We finish by photographing your work and chatting about how to keep arrangements fresh at home.

Most people worry they'll make something "wrong." There's no wrong—we're teaching you how florists think, not enforcing rules. We've worked with guests aged seven to eighty; rhythm and hands-on learning work at every level.

Why choose a hands-on class over tutorials online?

Online tutorials show technique but don't let you feel stem resistance, judge water uptake in real time, or receive live feedback on proportion. In a studio session, you're working with fresh, high-quality blooms—not plastic or video examples—and a host can see where your angle isn't quite right or your color balance is off and adjust it on the spot. You'll also learn what flowers are actually available in Hanoi markets on the day you visit, not generic species from a global video. That knowledge transfers directly to your next visit to a local market or florist. You'll also leave with three to five real arrangements, not a notebook. Most guests tell us the difference between watching and doing is the entire point.

What should you wear and bring?

Wear clothes you don't mind getting water on—stems drip, and flower food or leaf bits can splash. Closed shoes are fine; aprons are provided. We recommend bringing a camera or phone to photograph your finished work, and a small bag or box to carry arrangements home safely (we have boxes, but your own ensures they survive your journey). If you have severe allergies to pollen or foliage, let us know in advance so we can adjust flower choices or ask you to wear a mask. If it rains, the session still runs indoors in the studio—no weather impact.

How does pricing and booking work?

Pricing varies by group size, season, and flower availability, so we don't list fixed rates online—ask us for dates and a quote on WhatsApp, and we'll give you a clear breakdown. We coordinate all logistics there: dates, times, allergies, dietary needs (tea and snacks are included), and any special requests like focusing on one design style. For groups, we'll discuss how many people fit comfortably and confirm final numbers a few days before. For private sessions, we're flexible on timing. We ship nothing—everything happens on the day in our studio, so there's no shipping delay or damage risk.

How does this compare to other Hanoi flower experiences?

Our flower arranging sessions differ from retail florist classes (which often prioritize selling flowers you make) in that we focus purely on teaching design and technique. Unlike online floristry courses, you work with live, local blooms and get real-time host feedback. Some travelers also pair our flower arranging with other craft workshops or art and culture classes to deepen their understanding of Vietnamese creative traditions. A few guests combine flower arranging with our tea experiences or family experiences if they're visiting with children or want a full day of hands-on learning.

What to check before you book

Before you commit, confirm three things: (1) Group size and timing. Tell us how many people and your preferred dates; we'll confirm availability and whether private or small-group rates apply. (2) Allergies and mobility. If you have pollen allergies, mobility concerns (standing for two hours), or dietary restrictions, mention them now so we can adapt. (3) Your goal. Do you want to learn core technique, focus on one style (low arrangements, bridal, seasonal), or explore Vietnamese floral traditions? We'll tailor the content accordingly.

We've found that guests who arrive curious but with no expectations always have the best time. You're learning how florists see flowers, not mastering a commercial skill in one morning.

For broader context, if you're exploring Hanoi culture, you might also enjoy our street food and market tour, which includes visits to the Quang Ba flower market itself—a natural pairing with a floristry session—or one of our other experiences in Hanoi like Vietnamese cooking class or coffee workshop. Many multi-day visitors combine two or three sessions to immerse themselves more fully.

FAQ

Do I need any prior flower experience?

No. All our sessions begin with absolute beginners. We teach conditioning, design basics, and hands-on technique from scratch. Your only job is to show up curious and ready to get your hands wet.

What if I'm visiting with kids or older family members?

Kids aged seven and up enjoy our sessions, especially if they're comfortable sitting for 90 minutes and handling stems. Seniors are very welcome; we adapt for comfort (seating available, lighter flowers). Family sessions can be arranged—ask us on WhatsApp for a kid-friendly or multi-generational time.

What happens if someone in the group is much faster or slower?

We move at the group's pace. Faster learners often help others or explore more complex design; slower learners get extra guidance. There's no competition—everyone finishes with arrangements they're proud of.

Can I request specific flowers or colors?

Yes, within reason. When you book, tell us what blooms or color palettes you love. We'll use what's fresh and available in Hanoi that day, but we'll prioritize your preferences if we can source them.

How do I keep my arrangements fresh after I take them home?

We'll teach you during the session. Trim stems at an angle daily, change water every two days, remove wilted petals, and keep them out of direct sun and fruit. Most arrangements last 7–10 days with care.
