Vegan Coffee Workshop in Saigon: Hands-On Brewing & Plant-Based Pairings

By the Cáo Experiences team · 2026-11-06

A vegan coffee workshop at Cáo Experiences is a 2–3 hour hands-on session where you learn to grind, brew and taste specialty coffee alongside plant-based snacks and milk alternatives. We work in a calm space in central Saigon, usually in the morning or early afternoon, with 2–6 guests per group. You'll handle pour-over, French press or AeroPress techniques, understand coffee origin and roast profiles, and discover which plant-based milks (oat, coconut, almond) complement different beans. We adapt for all skill levels—beginners start with basics; experienced drinkers explore single-origin tasting or espresso fundamentals. Vegan guests feel genuinely included: we source local plant-based pastries and milk alternatives in advance. Ask us for dates and a quote on WhatsApp; sessions run year-round, rain or shine indoors. Come alone, with a partner, or as a small team.

What makes a vegan-friendly coffee workshop different from a standard one?

Most coffee workshops assume dairy milk and generic pastries. We build the session around plant-based choices from the start, not as an afterthought. That means we source oat, coconut and sometimes cashew milk from local suppliers ahead of time, taste how each behaves with espresso or filter coffee, and pair beans with vegan-friendly snacks—often house-made cakes, tofu-based treats, or locally baked vegan breads from nearby family bakeries.

We don't hide the milk steaming step; we teach it with plant-based milk too, so you see the difference in texture and how it changes the cup. That transparency builds confidence: you leave knowing exactly what to order or make at home.

How do we structure a typical 2.5-hour session in Saigon?

Hours 0–30 minutes: Welcome, taste, and setup. You arrive, we introduce ourselves, and you taste 2–3 contrasting coffees (light roast, medium, dark) brewed simply so you notice acidity, body and sweetness. We ask what you drink normally and what you hope to learn. We lay out the brewing gear—grinder, scales, kettles, filters, pour-over stands—and explain why each piece matters.

Hours 0.5–1.5: Hands-on brewing. You grind beans (we show the dial settings first), measure water temperature (usually 195–205°F), and brew your first cup using the method you chose. A co-host watches and talks you through timing, pouring speed, common mistakes. We taste together, discuss what happened, and you brew a second time with small adjustments. If interest runs high, you try a second brewing method—French press feels very different from pour-over.

Hours 1.5–2.5: Milk, tasting, and pairing. We steam or froth plant-based milk (oat froths best; coconut adds sweetness) and you practice making a microfoam if you want to. We taste how different milks sit in the cup with different roasts. Finally, we arrange vegan pastries and cheeses on a board, you taste coffee + food pairings, and we talk about what you'd make or order at home. We clean up together, swap notes on Saigon coffee spots that honor plant-based diets, and say goodbye.

What beginners worry about—and how we handle it:

ConcernWhat actually happensWhy it's fine
"I'll mess up the grind"You adjust dial twice; second cup is betterGrinding is tactile—you feel the difference fast
"Plant milk won't froth"Oat milk froths as well as dairyWe choose the right milk and show the technique
"I don't know coffee terms"We use simple language, no jargonYou taste, we describe; you build vocabulary naturally
"I'm slower than others"Everyone brews at their own paceNo rush; we time the group loosely around slowest person
"What if I hate the taste?"We taste multiple roasts, find what clicksPreference is real; we don't pretend otherwise

Who is this workshop really for?

Solo travelers and expats in Saigon who drink coffee daily but never learned how it's made—you'll go home with a skill and a new appreciation. Couples looking for a hands-on date that's relaxed and low-pressure—we've hosted dozens; it builds conversation. Small groups (3–6 friends or colleagues) wanting a morning activity that's not a tour—we adapt the pace so everyone feels included. Vegan or plant-based eaters tired of workshops that feel like an afterthought—you'll feel genuinely considered. Coffee enthusiasts moving to specialty brewing—we offer single-origin tasting or latte-art basics if you've already mastered fundamentals.

We do NOT run this for very young children (under 8); the standing, handling hot water and long focus aren't a fit. Seniors and guests with mobility needs are welcome—we work seated, brew at comfortable height, and move slowly.

What does weather or dietary restriction mean for your booking?

Rain: All sessions run indoors in a calm, climate-controlled space away from the street. No noise, no interruption. If you're nervous about humidity affecting coffee, it won't—our space is stable, and we handle equipment carefully.

Allergies and diet: Tell us when you book. We source vegan pastries and milk alternatives locally, so we can avoid tree nuts (if you're allergic) or gluten, and work around other needs. We've hosted guests avoiding soy, sesame, sulfites—we ask questions, we listen, and we plan ahead.

Mobility or energy: Sitting option for most of the session? Yes. We arrange a stool, adjust table height, or build in more rest. Shorter session (90 minutes instead of 150)? We can focus on one brewing method and skip the milk-steaming step.

When do you offer sessions, and what do we need to bring?

We run workshops most days year-round—ask us for availability. Morning (8–10 a.m.) or early afternoon (1–3 p.m.) works best for taste perception; evening is possible but less ideal. Book at least one week ahead so we can source milk alternatives and vegan snacks. You bring nothing except curiosity; we provide grinder, beans, ketles, filters, plant-based milk, snacks, water, and cups. Wear something you don't mind getting coffee on (unlikely but possible); comfortable shoes for standing 20–30 minutes. If you wear glasses, bring them.

FAQ

Do I need coffee experience to join?

No. Beginners and enthusiasts both learn real skills. We meet you where you are and don't use jargon unless you want it.

How many people are in a typical group?

2–6 guests. Small enough that we coach each person's brewing; large enough to feel like a shared moment. We run private sessions for 2 if you prefer.

Can we customize it for a team or birthday group?

Yes. We adapt brewing methods, focus on tasting vs. technique, add food pairings, or extend to 3 hours. Tell us the group size and what matters to you; we'll design something real. See our group workshops.

What if I'm visiting Saigon just one week—can we fit this in?

Very likely. We run sessions most days. Ask us for available dates the week you're in town, and we'll find a morning or afternoon slot. Message us on WhatsApp.

Is the coffee actually vegan, or just the pastry?

Coffee itself is vegan. We focus on plant-based milk alternatives and food pairings. You taste pure coffee, then explore how oat, coconut and other milks change the flavor. That's where the vegan choice really matters—and where most workshops drop the ball.
